The following are some general rules that need to be followed during the baseball tournament for protection of the fields and keep the tournament cost as low as possible. The Shelby Park Old Timers fields are two of the best fields in Nashville and are a great venue for our tournament. Mr. Mickey Hiter who manages and maintains them would like us to adhere to these general rules:
General Field Rules:
• Please do not warm up in cleats. Wear your turf shoes during warm-ups and up until game time.
• Warm up in the field only and not on the sidelines. Playing catch along, or in front of the dugouts is not permitted.
• Please take all pre-batting warm up swings on the gravel around the field or in the on deck circle.
• After the game is complete, please shake hands and offer prayers around home plate, not the pitching mound.
• Hitting baseballs against the metal fencing around the field or in the cages is prohibited. Hit baseballs into netting only.
• Please clean the dugouts after each game. General Tournament Rules
• Although there will be concessions, there are no restrictions on bringing coolers, food or drinks into either field.
• There are no gate fees.
• During play, all players in the dugout must stay on the concrete.
• If you are fetching foul balls within the fenced field, please put on a batting helmet. Foul balls hit outside the fence can be retrieved without a helmet. • Each team is responsible to retrieve foul balls on their side of the field. Foul balls hit behind home plate are the responsibility of the batting team.
• Each team should provide 2 playable game balls to start each game. Teams are responsible for collecting the used baseballs from the umpires after the game is over.
• First base dugout is responsible for selecting a scorekeeper to control the electronic scoreboard. Please make these arrangements in advance of game time. We will assist in instruction for proper use.
